Addicted to racing!

I guess the headline says it all.

LOL!

Now that I have run in four races since January, I just want to keep doing them!!

And I definitely don't want to wait until October to do my next one. I am actively searching for at least one this summer. There is a 5K on July 4th in Arcata, but I don't know if it would fit in with our plans.

I think for the time being I will focus more on distances that are 10K and shorter. I will do a half mary some day, but for right now I want to focus on getting faster. Plus, I kinda like the "shorter" races and I feel like I am getting more competitive in my age division.

I am also considering joining the local running club. They put on a lot of small member races each year, along with some of the bigger community ones. Three of the races I've done this year have been sponsored by them. I think it would be a neat way to meet other runners, and they have a circuit series where members can compete for titles in their age division depending on how they finish in at least six races a year. It sounds like a fun outlet for my competitive tendencies. And Tim will tell you, I am about the most competitive person out there (and not always in a good way).

OK, enough for now. Thanks for the words of support, my fellow runners!! :-)

Today's stats:

Bike:
Distance: 10 miles
Time: 36:25
Pace: 3:38 minute/mile

I don't blame you one bit. It's the races (even though I have only done three) that keep me motivated in my training. Like the Penguin says they are the party after all of the training!

Nothing wrong with staying with shorter races, especially early in your running life. I'm doing the same thing. It's easy to get caught up in the longer-is-better mentality, but it's not for everyone. There is something to be said for the challenge of going faster rather than just further.

Keep it up, you are doing great!!

Great job! Those races are very addicting...before you know it, you are going to have a great collection of race t-shirts!

Races are great motivators and reinforcers. Go for it!

Joining a running club is a great idea. I never minded getting up at 5am when I was meeting other runners for long runs during my half-marathon training. It's a good way to keep motivated.
