Nikki, this one's for you

Yes, Nikki, that's because I was thinking about your treadmill runs while doing a treadmill run of my own today.

I had to scrap the outside run because it rained like hell ALL DAY today. And ALL DAY yesterday. I think I might need to build an ark soon. I had to drive to my chiropractic appointment in the relentless downpour and realized I really, *really* didn't want to take my son out in that (my daughter was with the inlaws today, so I didn't have to worry about her).

But I digress. I've only done a few treadmill runs so far and I think I realize why I don't enjoy them as much as the outdoor runs.

1) There's nothing pretty to look at. I don't consider my messy desk, Tim's messy desk, our cluttered bookshelf and exercise bike "pretty" in any way.

2) It's hotter than a freakin' oven in the room. Our house is kept at a comfy 70 degrees, which feels like the surface of the sun to me when running on the treadmill. And I have a fan pointing at me, but I can't seem to feel the air from it while running. I don't know why. The damn thing is pointed RIGHT AT ME! But maybe it's because I'm used to outdoor runs where the maximum temperature is 60 degrees. And that's even in the summer. Love Humboldt County!

3) The treadmill monitor taunts me. I can't seem to NOT look at it. I covered it with a hand towel tonight, but every three or four minutes I got the impulse to look at it. Torture.

4) There's no cool training partner on said monitor like there is on my Garmin.

5) I have to run slower because I am still afraid I will trip and fall and bust out my front teeth.

I'm sure I could go on and on about this, but I think the point's been made. Nothing will replace a good old-fashioned outdoor run.

Oh, forgot to mention my new running shoes are awesome!!! They were so comfy and light!! My old clunky trailrunners can eat my dust!! ;)

Today's stats:
Distance: three miles
Time: 38:57
Pace: 12:59 minute/mile

I dislike the treadmill with a passion. Don't know if you ever saw the movie Office Spaces but I would like to do to the treadmill what they did to the printer!:) Yuck, no thank you.
